DONT YELL AT ME...I Have To Pee

Updated: Nov 12, 2023

The Dont Yell At Me Capitol Hill location.

Since moving to Seattle in 2020, I have come close to peeing my pants more times than I care to admit. My friends know all too well having to speed walk back to the Seattle University campus – one of the only restrooms available to me for free.

This is an issue that only became apparent to me since moving to Seattle. I can probably count, on one hand, the number of restrooms in the city I have been able to use for free.

I might be missing a few bathrooms or maybe I've been too scared to attempt to use a restroom without paying, but this is clearly an issue for more reasons than my own. The number of publicly funded stadiums in Seattle outnumbers the amount of 24/7 public restrooms.

Access to toilets is a right, not a privilege...

Whether you have IBS, are pregnant, are house insecure, or just need to use a damn bathroom, searching for one that is free, clean, safe and accessible should not be like searching for a needle in a haystack. Access to toilets is a right, not a privilege to have because you can afford to buy a drink (for the code on the bottom of the receipt) or because your physical appearance doesn't evoke negative prejudices.

As someone who has, more than once, almost failed to find a bathroom in time, I could rant about this until my throat is dry. But, enough of that for now. Let's get into what you're really here for – a food and toilet review.

The hint I gave in my first Instagram post was "it's got balls..." If you guessed boba (or could tell by the title of this article) you'd be right! This week I am reviewing Dont Yell At Me, specifically their newest location in Capitol Hill on Broadway.

Dont Yell At Me is a boba shop offering a wide variety of teas and toppings like cheese foam, taro balls, golden honey pearls and more in addition to snacks like bubble waffles. You can check out their menu with pricing on their Instagram under the "menu" highlight.

Honey oolong with golden honey pearls.

MY ORDER:

Honey oolong with golden honey pearls, 50% sweet and regular ice.

THE PRICE:

$5.62

MY RATING OUT OF 5: 4.5

THE REVIEW:

The sweetness level was perfect, the chewiness of the boba was perfect and the taste of the tea was pretty close to perfect. The only reason this drink doesn't get a 5 out of 5 is simply that it isn't my favorite flavor.

This is not my usual order (I usually get a passion fruit green tea but they don't have it on their menu) so I admit to a biased rating. However, for the price of $5.62, one of the cheapest price points for boba in the city, it might just deserve a 5 out of 5 if honey oolong is your thing.

Down the hallway at the back of the shop is their single-stall bathroom.

MY RATING OUT OF 5: 3

MY REVIEW:

This bathroom was definitely on the cleaner side of all the bathrooms I've used in the city, which I would expect as they only open a few months ago. It has a sleek look with white tiles and accent lights above the sink and was fully stocked with toilet seat covers and soap. They also have railings installed next to the toilet which is a nice addition I don't always find in bathrooms in the city.

The toilet was adjacent to the sink and the room had ample space.

The only issue I have is that a code is required for access which I had no problem getting once I ordered my drink. Overall, it's a standard bathroom, nothing too special.

Based on my categories of cleanliness, whether it's free or not, how accessible it is, and its overall style, the bathroom is deserving of a 3 out of 5. To learn more and view the breakdown of my rating system, head to my bathroom rubric.

Dont Yell At Me is quickly becoming my favorite boba shop in Capitol Hill. They have one of the cheapest prices in the city, they offer non-dairy milk options, they're open late and they have such a unique brand.

For some, this might be a controversial take but it's hard to find good boba in Capitol Hill. Now that we have a Dont Yell At Me, my opinion on that might just change.

Yet with all this boba, I have just one more thing to say: for my friends reading this blog, please don't yell at me...I have to pee!
